Grade UE07: £39,347 - £46,974 per annum.
CMVM / MGPHS / USHER Institute
Full time: 35 hours per week.
Fixed Term available from 1st October 2024 until 30 September 2027
Location: Usher Institute, Edinburgh, Bioquarter.

The Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society (CBSS) at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) to join the Wellcome Trust funded project ‘FemTech Innovation: Care provision, knowledge production, and menstrual health in the UK and US`, 226966/Z/23/Z, with PI Dr Andrea Ford.

The Opportunity:

During the three-year position, the PDRF will be expected to conduct 15 months of original ethnographic fieldwork in a geographic location of their choosing that complements the PI’s concurrent research in the US (San Francisco) and UK (Edinburgh). The research must contribute to the overarching goals of the comparative project, resulting in peer-reviewed journal articles and book(s), as well as workshops in the three project locations. Research expenses will be fully funded.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • PhD in a relevant discipline (anthropology, gender studies, sociology, STS).
  • Experience conducting long-term ethnographic fieldwork, and concomitant geographical expertise
  • Topical expertise at the intersection of medical anthropology, science and technology studies, and women’s health.
  • Willingness to undertake teaching duties and training in university teaching.
  • Willingness to develop and conduct translational activities including, for example, accessible writing, public engagement and public talks, policy engagement, etc.
