Your role
What is the main purpose of the role?
We seek a knowledgeable and self-motivated individual with experience working with 11–16-year-olds with SEND and SEMH. The sessions will deliver 1-1 workshops in woodwork while building positive relationships with students. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing relational mentoring and vocational teaching to vulnerable young people.
What will the job entail?
- Develop and deliver engaging woodworking sessions.
- Teach woodworking techniques, operate tools, and explain safety procedures with young people.
- Provide individual and group mentoring to support the personal and academic growth of our young people.
- Guide and assist students in completing woodworking projects, ensuring they meet safety standards.
- Prioritise safety by ensuring rules and regulations are followed and provide appropriate supervision.
- Ensure that woodworking equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Assess and record student progress.
- Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages engagement and success.
- Adapt teaching methods to support students with additional needs.
- Ensure outstanding safeguarding practice and actively promote the welfare of all students.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with 11-16-year-olds in an educational setting
Your responsibilities
You will have responsibility for the education and safety of students whilst in your care and the responsibility of managing and maintaining the innov8 Wood workshop.
You will need:
- Competency in woodwork
- Strong communication and inter-personal skills
- Computer skills
- Experience working with SEND/SEMH children
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices
- Experience dealing with challenging behaviour (desirable)

innov8 Workshops is a vocational alternative provision/charity offering children and young people focused mentoring alongside the opportunity to learn practical skills. We are expanding to Primary and Post-16 provision for September 2024.
