We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Welder to join our engineering department in Southampton. This position will evaluate, design, and build solutions to a variety of mechanical issues relating to all site equipment and activities. They will also inspect, test, repair, and report on all sorts of ferrous and non-ferrous welds, ensuring the integrity of metallic components through the use of non-destructive testing procedures.

We have varying shifts available covering both day and night shifts, working weekdays and weekends. 

About The Role
How will you contribute: 

  • Coach Apprentices and Technicians in methods of fabrication, including: - welding, gas cutting, grinding, and machining.
  • Ensure all required data is entered into asset management system to maintain accurate information during the lifetime of the assets.
  • Provide support for the development of the necessary method statements and risk assessments related to the activities of the workshop & mobile equipment and cranes section.
  • Assist the Engineering Team in general duties as time permits, including assisting Shift Teams with routine maintenance and breakdowns.
  • Execute repair and maintenance activities according to engineering processes, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Assist the team in the implementation of H&S policies and procedures in the maintenance organization.
  • Ensure that method statements and risk assessments of all the repair and maintenance activities are documented, implemented, and updated as necessary.
  • Assist the team to determine stocks and inventory levels.
  • Assist the team in order to improve equipment performance at the lowest possible cost.
  • Ensure that all information related to projects, repair and maintenance activities are recorded in EAMS for each asset and during the life cycle of the asset
  • Ensure all Welding Equipment, Machine Tools, gas bottles, and safety equipment is kept in a safe serviceable state, in line with PUWER regulations.

 

What will you Bring.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • City & Guild NVQ Level 3 (Or equivalent) qualification in appropriate subject.
  • Previously coded to EN287-1(Structural) in GMAW & SMAW (GTAW preferable but not essential).
  • English and Maths GCSE or equivalent
  • Competent with various types of NDT (Non-destructive testing);
  • Competent with various machine tools;
  • Competency in oxy/gas cutting and gas heating;
  • Competency in Plasma cutting;
  • Experience with confined space and over-height work
  • Demonstrable previous experience in fabrication (Preferably with heavy plant).
