Your role and responsibilities

The West Mental Health team are currently recruiting for a Social Worker to join the team. You would be joining a team who feel passionately about supporting adults with mental health difficulties and working with communities and other organisations to get people the right support at the right time. The team work closely with mental health services across West Suffolk, both in the community and in inpatient settings.

We are responsible for meeting the Care Act needs of adults in Suffolk who are also supported by secondary mental health services. This includes supporting hospital discharges, carrying out Care Act assessments in the community, and completing safeguarding enquiries. As part of this role, you will also work within the frameworks of the Mental Capacity Act and the Mental Health Act.

The team is made up of 8 Social Workers (including a Senior Practitioner) and 3 Senior Independence and Wellbeing Practitioners. The team split their time between working from the office and working from home, alongside visiting people in the community.

There are opportunities for continued professional development within the team, and to explore individual interests and specialities. Within the team there are a number of Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs), a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) and social workers who support students either as an on-site supervisor or as a Practice Educator (PE). They would always be happy to share their knowledge and experience, and for you to explore the chance to further your development in the same way.

You will need

  • Social work qualification
  • Social work registration with Social Work England (or to be awaiting this if you are newly qualified)
  • To hold a valid UK driving licence
